Flight
Takeoff
Take over
Take control of the reigns
This cockpit only has one seat
I’m the only pilot
This plane cabin is empty
I’m the only passenger
The wheels fold
Into the belly of the beast
There’s no looking back
Ascending
Climbing higher and higher
Reaching new altitudes
They say the sky is the limit
But even the sky ends
At some point
I shrug that off and continue my pursuit
Of higher heights
Onward I go
Seemingly nothing holding me back
Turbulence
No one said the ride would be smooth
They didn’t say it would be
This rough either
Lightning
Thunder
Overcast heavens
Black clouds enveloping
The metal bird
Like a weighted blanket
No way to look back
No end in sight
But only way to go is
Forward
Up
Over the rain clouds
Peace is restored
Balance is regained
Control is reclaimed
The shining star illuminates my path
My destination is nowhere in sight
But the reality of it
Grows ever clearer in my mind
Focused on the aerial path ahead
Startled from my daydream
By the sound of repeating rings
I see that the plane is
Running out of fuel
This jet can only go so far
Descent
Slowly falling out of the sky
No panic
No sense of urgency
Total composure
The runway becomes visible
Through the wispy feathers
Of dust and vapor
The wheels eject from the
Belly of the beast
Preparing for ground contact
Brace for the landing
Rubber meets the road
Shaky
Hundreds of meters roll by
The plane finally comes to a smooth stop
This is only the first pitstop
I don’t know how many more
I’ll have to take
To reach my
Destination
