The Fall

Tipping over the edge

The climax

The peace before

The storm that follows

The drop followed by

The crash

One direction this all leads,

Down.

Down.

Down.

Down

I fall

Spiraling out of control

My large

Beautiful feathers

Detached

Fluttering above me

I struggle and grasp at them

In vain

The Sun

Which I thought was my blessing

Became my curse

The sea

That brings new life

Would hold my fate

In its tides

Young Icarus

You flew too close to the sun

Your ignorance

Is your greatest demise

You knew it would burn you

Yet higher

And higher

And higher

You flew

The thrill of freedom

Quickly turned into

A cry for salvation

Closer

And closer

My body drew to the waves

Cascading below

My wings

Dampened by the mist

I ceased to struggle

I ceased to fight

My fate was already sealed

Those last lingering moments

My mind went back in time

My life

Flashed before my eyes

All the warnings I ignored

The advice I failed to heed

The truth

I purposely muted out

With my lies

The adrenaline rush I had felt

On the way up

Was replaced by a

Crippling fear

Of what laid in wait for me

Below

Everything that goes

Up

Must come down

I was not exempt from this law

Of nature and life

Even I knew that

I gave up my fight

Knowing

I must pay the consequence

Of my ignorance

Down I came crashing

Into the sea

Crashing back into reality

Bursting

Out of my dream

To be continued….
